Criminal Defense Attorney: Defending the Rights of the Accused and the Incarcerated

Posted on Aug 22, 2013

On June 25 a building contract was awarded to Art’s Way Scientific by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for 750,000 for a building that will house pigs and their new piglets.  TDCJ breeds pigs for its agricultural program and the program provides food to inmates.  The buildings will be “climate controlled” through the use of water misters and ventilation.  Prison rights activists have pointed out the absurdity of spending this amount of money cooling pigs that are being raised for slaughter and not on offenders who are going to be released.  TDCJ has repeatedly stated that the ability to better cool prisons is in the legislatures hands and not theirs.
