In Texas an offenders first parole review date is called their parole eligibility date. An inmate will be informed of their initial eligibility date soon after arriving in TDCJ and going through classification.  The date is written on their time sheet.  Generally speaking there are two main categories of offenders as it relates to their first parole review:

  1. Offenders who will be reviewed when they have credit for %25 of their sentence.  Credit is calculated by taking calendar time and adding good time credit.
  2. Offenders who will be reviewed when they have served half of their sentence.

If you are trying to help someone obtain a positive parole vote on his or her first review please call us on our toll free number 888-661-5030 or fill out an online contact form.  For additional information regarding the parole process please download our free booklet regarding the parole process.  We represent offenders going through the parole process at prison units across the state of Texas.  We have worked with families in Houston, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, McAllen and numerous other cities and towns across Texas.
