Just days before the University of Texas was to play in the Alamo Bowl, head football coach Mack Brown announced that two players had been suspended and sent home. The disciplinary actions were taken after police were called to investigate allegations of a sexual assault. Brown indicated that the players had broken team rules.
San Antonio police were called to a hotel in the early morning hours to respond to a possible sexual assault involving a 21-year-old woman. The woman told the police officers that she had been drinking at a nightclub and had invited the two football players to her hotel room. Police indicated that the investigation is ongoing.
This incident shows how just the mere allegation of an assault can impact a person’s life. While details about the situation at hand are still being investigated, the incident prompted the coach to keep the players from participating in a big game. Certainly, an employer might have a similar reaction after learning that an employee had been accused of committing assault. Friends and acquaintances may also judge a person facing an assault charge. They may stop socializing with the accused person, or they may spread rumors about the incident.
