Q
In Houston, what should I do if I think there is a warrant out for my arrest? A Houston criminal defense attorney explains.

A

The first thing you should do is contact a criminal defense attorney.  You can call us at 713-651-1444 at any time of the day or night and we can help you.  If you think there may be a warrant out it is probably best to discuss why you think that with an attorney before going forward in order to avoid making any mistakes.

While there are websites that say they can help, the best source is usually the Sheriffs office in the county in which you think the warrant was issued.  The second best place to call would probably be a bonding company.  In most cases if there is a warrant our for a persons arrest a bond has also been set.  If you or a loved one use any of these resources make sure to obtain a cause number, the type of charge and the amount of the bond.  Alternatively you can contact us and we will find out that information for you.

In Texas, unless the officer witnesses the offense they must go to a judge with probable cause that you committed a crime in order to obtain a warrant for your arrest.  For a number of offenses the police will not go out in force looking for the accused.  In these cases what often happens is you will be pulled over for speeding or have some other type of interaction with police officers and they will discover the warrant and arrest you.  This can be extremely inconvenient and can lead to spending unnecessary time in city or county jails.  The inconvenience can be made even worse if you happen to be out of county when you are pulled over.  We recommend that if you believe that there may be a warrant out for your arrest it is best to find out what it is about and determine the right course of action with the help of experienced criminal defense attorneys.  Please fill out our secure online contact form and an experienced criminal defense attorney will be in touch shortly.  If you have any questions about a possible arrest warrant out of Harris County, Galveston County, Brazoria County, Montgomery County, Fort Bend County, or Grimes County please call our toll free number 888-661-5030.
